Our Exciting News

Ok, time to get back on the blogging bandwagon. I think it's time to share, most people probably already know this, but Sam and I are having a baby! Yes, pretty exciting! The baby is due at the end of November. I'm right around 12 weeks right now. We got to hear the little heartbeat last week. That was exciting and made it seem more real. I've been doing pretty good. My energy levels were so low, but I think it's getting better now. We are seeing a midwife and planning on giving birth at a birthing center called Dayspring. We are really impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. There are many reasons why we chose to go with a midwife versus a hospital. I don't think hospitals are bad. I just think that women have been having babies for a long time and their bodies know what to do. Doctors specialize in medicine and high risk birth. Since I am low risk I want to go with someone who fully supports and encourages the decision of doing things the natural way. One reason is that the US has one of the highest infant mortality death rates in developed countries. I think this is because in the US they tend to push for C-Sections. We also watched The Business of Being Born, which I would recommend to anyone who is pregnant. There is a lot of good information on this post. I could go on and on about this! I just think it's good to inform people because I think most people don't fully understand all of the great things about a midwife.

We plan on not finding out the sex of the baby. We think it will be fun for it to be a surprise. I'll share a picture soon, although not much to really report right now. You can't really tell that I'm pregnant. I love learning about all the natural birth stuff, I've been drinking raspberry tea, doing some yoga and trying to get enough protein in my diet. I'm thinking of trying floradix, has anyone heard of this? It's supposed to give you more energy it's an herbal supplement with iron. I'll have to ask the midwife.

It's been so long since I've been on here. A lot has been going on. We'll see if I play catch up.

Congratulations, that is so cool! My sister had a mid-wife and so have some of my friends and absolutely loved that route. I had a c-section with my last baby and I wouldn't wish that on anyone, if it can be avoided.
Again, congratulations, what a blessing!!

Zillions of congrats, Becca! :) You'll have that little one just in time to celebrate Christmas 2010...what a fabulous gift!

Can't wait to hear and see more about this precious babe!

P.S. I think not finding out the sex is fabulously fun and secretive. I don't know that I'll ever be patient enough to do so...but I get so excited when others are. Yay! :)

So excited for you and Sam! I have been e-mailing with Tamar P. about natural childbirth and cloth diapering. I always feel like I go on for too long, but I'm such a huge proponent for both!!

God bless you and baby!

Oh Becca...so excited + happy for you and your little baby in the making. I had both mine at home, naturally of course and am so thankful for the blessing that a low risk pregnancy is. Many congratulations...

Hi Becca, I came over from Jessica's blog. I just had my first child six weeks ago and did natural childbirth in a hospital. We too saw The Business of Being Born. I love my dr. so I went the hospital route but with as little intervention as possible and talking with him about my wishes from the beginning. It was a great experience! We also waited to find out boy/girl. It was really fun to wait. We have a sweet baby boy! God's richest blessings on your pregnancy! Kelly
